Description

The primary uses for the ancient Ayurvedic proprietary drug Chavikasavam include urinary problems and digestive issues. Chavikasavam is a solid herbal tonic made from a traditional Ayurvedic recipe that is manufactured through a thorough fermentation process. It brings together a synergistic blend of natural elements that promote overall well-being and rejuvenation. Abdominal distension, flatulence, appetite loss, poor digestion, bloating, constipation, urinary tract issues, common cold, allergic rhinitis, phthisis, cough, gout or hyperuricemia, hernia, and other conditions are all well helped by this medicine.

How is Chavikasavam Prepared?

Chavikasavam is a combination made by fermenting herbs in an aqueous solution with sugar or jaggery, and it includes 5–10% alcohol that is produced naturally. Chavya (Piper chaba), Dhataki (Woodfordia fruticosa), Jaggery (Guda), and water are the main components of Chavikasavam. The herbs in this aqueous mixture are combined to increase appetite, aid with digestion, and lessen and even prevent excessive intestinal gas. Additionally, it promotes regular bowel movements and prevents waste from becoming sticky.

Ingredients:

Kwatha Dravya:Chavya – Piper Chaba, Chitrakmool – Plumbago zeylanica, Dikamali – Gardenia gummifera, Pushkarmool – Inula Racemosa, Vacha – Acorus Calamus, Hauber – Juniperus Communis, Kurchi – Holarrhena Antidysenterica, Indravaruni – Citrullus Colocynthis Roots, Dhania – Coriandrum Sativum, Rasna – Pluchea Lanceolata, Dantimool – Baliospermum Montanum, Kachur – Curcuma Zedoaria, Patolamoola – Trichosanthes Dioica, Haritaki or Harad – Terminalia Chebula, Bibhitaki – Terminalia Bellirica, Amalaki – Phyllanthus Emblica (Emblica Officinalis), Ajwain – Trachyspermum Ammi, Vaividang – Embelia Ribes, Nagarmotha or Mustak – Cyperus Rotundus, Manjistha – Rubia Cordifolia, Devdaru – Cedrus Deodara, Sonth – Zingiber Officinale, Kali Mirch – Piper Nigrum, Pippali – Piper Longum, Water.

Method:

Clean all the herbs under Kwatha Dravya, let them dry in the sun, and then powder each one separately.
Boil the powdered herbs in the necessary amount of water until the water's original volume is reduced to ¼.
To obtain a transparent liquid, strain the infusion.
Next, add all of the prakshepa dravyas and stir everything together while the filtrate is still little warm.
Place the mixture into an earthen pot (asava) that has been inside covered with ghee.
Cover the hole of the container with a towel smeared with clay.
Place the vessel in the fermentation room and leave it there alone for 30 days.
Once a month has passed, strain the mixture to get rid of any remaining herbs and contaminants.
For later usage, decant the clear asava liquid into food-grade bottles and keep it out of the sun and direct heat.

Health Benefits of Chavikasavam:

Promotes Digestion
Food particles in the stomach and intestine get broken down in a significant way by chavikasavam. As result, assimilation and the absorption of essential nutrients through the intestines are increased. This action also causes the stomach to secrete digestive fluids. In addition to relieving bloating, abdominal distension, and gaseous pains, it also aids in the evacuation of stomach gas.

Treats Flatulence And Bloating
This digestive drink, which is sanctified with a variety of nutrients like saunf, sonth, hing, and dhania, is effective in getting rid of stomach gas and reducing bloating, flatulence, and a heavy feeling in the abdomen. In addition, it works wonders for colitis when combined with Praval Pishti, Mukta Pishti, Vanshlochan, and Swarna Parpati.

Treats Anorexia
The primary feature of anorexia nervosa, also known as Aruchi in Ayurveda, is the inability to crave food, even when one is starving. The emotional well-being of the patient is frequently linked to this disorder since the patient experiences aggressive eating disorders, anxiety about gaining weight or becoming obese, low self-esteem, and an intense desire to lose weight in any way possible—sometimes even by sticking a finger in their throat and forcing them to vomit in order to get rid of the food they have consumed.Anorexia, according to Ayurveda, is primarily a symptom of imbalanced Vata, Pitta, and Kapha dosha levels in the body and mostly arises from Agnimandya (weak digestive fire). Considered a natural digestive and appetiser, chavikasavam stimulates the appetite, aids in proper digestion, and makes sure the individual consumes a balanced diet.

Improves Respiratory Health
With its strong antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-asthmatic properties, chavikasavam is revered for its ability to strengthen respiratory health by providing relief from conditions like bronchitis, asthma, cough, and other diseases brought on by a Kapha imbalance. It is essential in the treatment of common colds, flu symptoms, sore throats, and clogged throats. As an expectorant, the formulation helps clear the respiratory system of extra mucus and catarrh deposits while also relieving irritated airways to allow for regular breathing.

Alleviates Urinary Disorders
Chavikasavam, filled with substantial anti-inflammatory and diuretic properties, is an effective treatment for urinary diseases, including painful micturition, burning feeling during urination, and urine incontinence. By increasing urine production and breaking down stones in the urinary tract, the medication's lithotrophic effect relieves painful urination. In addition to treating dysuria and preventing urinary tract infections, Chavikasavam contains moderate diuretic or Mutral herbs.

Relieves Pain And Inflammation
The properties of Chavikasavam are primarily analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and pain-relieving. These properties provide a great deal of relief from pain and inflammation, which lowers the risk of developing chronic autoimmune inflammatory diseases such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and joint pain, which are primarily brought on by the body's vitiation of Vata Doshas. A natural vasodilatory effect displayed by Chavikasavam significantly aids in the relief of painful muscle spasms, arthritic disorders, sore muscles, and other inflammatory conditions.

Side Effects of Chavikasavam:

An individual with elevated or worsened Kapha and Vata doshas is best suited for Chavikasavam. When utilized sensibly in accordance with Dosha analysis, there are no negative effects. Sometimes, or as a consequence of overuse in individuals with Pitta Prakriti or elevated Pitta Dosha, it may result in the following symptoms:

  • Heartburn
  • Hyperacidity
  • Gastritis
  • Vertigo
  • Burning sensation in the abdomen

Contradictions:

Chavikasavam should not be taken in following cases:

  • Pregnancy
  • Heartburn
  • Gastritis
  • Hyperacidity
  • Vertigo
  • Acid Reflux and GERD
  • Inflammatory bowel diseases – ulcerative colitis
  • Mouth ulcer

Pregnancy & Lactation:

The herbs Pushkarmool, Chitrak, and other similar ones found in Chavikasavam have the potential to induce uterine bleeding and intensify contractions. So Chavikasavam should not be consumed by pregnant women.

For nursing moms, the safety profile of Chavikasavam is not well established. Ayurvedic doctors should be consulted before using Chavikasavam while a nursing mother.

Conclusion:

An ancient Ayurvedic treatment for digestive disorders and urinary issues is called chavikasavam. It is widely used to treat a wide range of digestive issues, such as gastritis, indigestion, bloating, constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome. It also aids in the treatment of gout, liver issues, inflammatory illnesses, and urinary tract infections.
