Effect On Doshas:

Lohasava is intrinsically blessed with Laghu (Light), Ushna (Hot), Ruksha (Dry) Guna and Ushna Virya (hot potency). It is a magical alcohol-based formulation that pacifies mainly the Kapha (earth and water) and Vata (air) doshas and an excess of it can aggravate the Pitta doshas (fire and air). It also has a positive impact on the various Dhatus or bodily tissues which are Rasa (i.e., Plasma), Rakta (i.e., Blood), and Medas (i.e., fats) and mainly demonstrates Hematinic property or prabhab on the body. Lohasava has an optimistic impact on the liver, spleen, stomach, intestine, heart & blood.

Dosage:

The useful therapeutic dose of Lohasava varies from person to person depending upon their age, body stability, impacts on appetite, the severity of the disease, and the condition of the patient. It is urged to consult an ayurvedic doctor or practitioner for the valid dosage.

Adults: 10 – 20 ml, along with water, twice a day, after meals or as suggested by the health care provider. But ensure that the maximum dosage doesn’t exceed 60 ml per day.

Side Effects:

Lohasava is usually considered safe in prescribed amounts, but some patients may experience a sense of distaste or metallic taste in the mouth for a few minutes after taking it.  Some patients may also undergo a feeling of nausea or vomiting after taking it due to its astringent taste. Some patients may exhibit other side effects like heartburn or burning sensation in the abdomen and issues with digestion.

Precautions:

Without credible knowledge regarding the intake of this medication during pregnancy, it is strictly suggested to consult the treating doctor before taking Lohasava. Self-medication during pregnancy is strictly prohibited.

Although it is safe to use during the lactation period, it should still be consumed only after a doctor’s approval.

While, it is safe to use Lohasava at a lower dose, in children above 5 years of age, however, overdosage under any circumstances should be avoided as it can lead to fatal iron poisoning symptoms.
